The Canadian Postcode Lottery Foundation, part of the Postcode Lottery Group, hosted its inaugural event, 'Power of Postcodes,' which was attended by over 20 charitable organizations working to make a difference in Ontario.
The Postcode Lottery Group CEO Sigrid van Aken warmly welcomed representatives from charities such as WWF Canada, Amnesty International Canada, Terry Fox Foundation, and Right to Play.
The event, aimed to foster collaboration within Canada’s nonprofit sector and introduce the Postcode Lottery as an impactful community crowdfunding initiative, featured a keynote address by Paul Nazareth, a respected thinker in Canada's philanthropic and giving landscape.
Nazareth shared insights from his extensive 25-year career in supporting communities.
‘This is something Canadians deserve’
Expressing enthusiasm about the potential impact of the Canadian Postcode Lottery Foundation, Nazareth emphasized the need for a more collaborative ecosystem in Canada's philanthropic sector. He commended the foundation's core belief in undesignated core-funding, stating: “This [the Canadian Postcode Lottery Foundation] is an idea I feel we really need right now, in our sector, in Ontario. It’s exciting to see that the team says things in their ethos like we respect and trust charities to do their work. This idea is something socially beautiful that Canadians deserve."
The event brought key players in Ontario's civil society together, emphasizing the trust-based funding philosophy, that the Postcode Lottery Group is known for, and the foundation's ambitions to operate in Canada and support local communities.
Canadian Postcode Lottery Foundation director Mary Ann MacKenzie says: “We are dedicated to strengthening communities, empowering the charity landscape, and eagerly anticipate bringing more events, webinars, and inspiration to Ontario.”
The Canadian Postcode Lottery Foundation is part of the Postcode Lottery Group. The Postcode Lottery Group combines business with ideals, initiating and operating charity lotteries with a mission to contribute to a better world. A total of over CA$18.3 billion has been raised for thousands of charitable organizations and nonprofits since 1989.
